Sclerotherapy in Montclair, NJ
Vein and Skin Studio is proud to offer Montclair patients sclerotherapy for the treatment of varicose veins. Dr. Zbigniew Moszczynski is board-certified in both phlebology and general surgery and has experience using sclerotherapy to eliminate varicose veins.
What is Sclerotherapy?
Varicose veins are enlarged, unsightly veins that are often purple, bright blue, or red. They most often occur on the legs or face and can cause discomfort. These types of veins are not necessary for the venous system to function so they can be safely removed. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a sclerosing solution into the varicose vein to seal it shut. The procedure is highly effective at improving the appearance of the veins and relieves the discomfort and pain of varicose veins in approximately 85 percent of patients.
Since sclerotherapy involves a minimally invasive injection, the procedure can be safely performed in the office. Most patients experience very mild discomfort with the injections. It typically takes Dr. Moszczynski less than 30 minutes to complete the procedure. Depending on the cosmetic results you desire and the severity of your veins, you may need two to six sclerotherapy sessions to achieve optimal results.
Sclerotherapy requires very little downtime. In fact, patients are encouraged to return to normal activities as soon as possible to promote healthy circulation and speed recovery.
How Does Sclerotherapy Work?
Dr. Moszczynski and his team start the procedure by cleaning the affected area with an antiseptic solution. Dr. Moszczynski then gently stretches the skin and injects the solution into the varicose veins. He typically makes one injection every inch with most treatments requiring anywhere from five to forty injections. Following the treatment, Dr. Moszczynski will place compression tape over the affected area.
