Injection Sclerotherapy in Jersey City, NJ
Dr. Zbigniew Moszczynski is a renowned specialist who is board-certified in general surgery and phlebology. His Vein and Skin Studio provides injection sclerotherapy treatment for people living in Bayonne and the nearby New Jersey communities.
What is Injection Sclerotherapy?
Injection sclerotherapy involves the injection of a solution into a vein, causing it to scar and collapse. This forces blood to be re-routed into healthy veins. After this procedure, the collapsed vein is reintegrated back into the body and fades away.
Why is Sclerotherapy Recommended for Spider Veins?
Sclerotherapy is the gold standard for treating spider veins in the legs because it is minimally invasive, which means healing is much faster than with other forms of treatment. It can also alleviate other symptoms such as swelling, aching, night cramps, and burning sensations.
Veins that are treated with this therapy will fade in a matter of weeks although they occasionally take up to two months to achieve optimal results. In certain cases, multiple sclerotherapy treatments may be required.
How is Injection Sclerotherapy Performed?
Sclerotherapy does not require the use of anesthesia, and normally takes from 15 minutes to 30 minutes, depending upon the amount of work required. Patients slightly elevate their legs while lying on their backs. After an initial cleansing of the treatment area using alcohol swabs, Dr. Moszczynski will insert a fine needle containing a foam or solution into the affected vein.
Sometimes, patients will notice some minor cramping or stinging after the insertion of the needle. The foam or solution that is injected will irritate the vein lining, making it close and block blood flow.
After withdrawing the needle, Dr. Moszczynski then manipulates the treatment area to prevent blood from staying within the injected blood vessel. A compression pad may also be taped onto the treatment site in the case of large veins. Several injections could be needed to treat more severe cases.
How Much Does Sclerotherapy Cost?
Sclerotherapy costs depend on the number and size of the veins to be treated. We take payment in the form of cash, check, or credit cards. Vein and Skin Studio also provides financing via CareCredit®.
How Do I Prepare for Injection Sclerotherapy?
Prior to your procedure, Dr. Moszczynski will normally go over your medical history and conduct a physical examination. The veins requiring treatment will be examined and checked for potential blood vessel disorders.
You should let us know if you:
- Are pregnant. We advise you wait until your baby is delivered before your procedure.
- Have medical conditions such as heart disease, coagulation disorder, or cancer.
- Take prescription or over-the-counter medicine, including supplements.
- Smoke or take birth control pills, two things that can raise the odds of developing clots.
- Have allergies.
Walking is encouraged after your procedure. This movement of your legs aids in the prevention of blood clot formation and enhances the results of your treatment. You will also need to wear bandages or compression stockings over the area that was treated for up to three weeks to keep pressure on the veins.
Patients are normally able to resume their normal activities immediately after their treatment. You should not have any exposure to the sun in the area that was treated for two weeks after your procedure.
